You are purchasing one new USA Made wiring harness kit for 1946 Harley-Davidson WL civilian models. This is our "premium" kit. It has correct tinned open barrel flag terminals used in 1946 & 1947 as well as correct twisted and sweated open wire ends on the headlamp terminals and stop lamp switch terminals. This also utilizes a reproduction oil pressure switch cup terminal which was unique to HD.
The dash to fork, dash to battery and coil, and dash to generator harness sub-assemblies are grouped with cotton-woven loom. Handlebar wires, stop lamp switch, and timer to coil wire are all encased with asphalt looms. Coil to timer wire uses correct banjo style open barrel eyelet terminal, 1414-18 and has the correct wire retainer or "hat pin" to hold the loom in the timer.
We sell a Knucklehead OHV kit on another listing in our store and a WL/Servicar base kit.
It's still debatable if the main traced wires were a 1946 innovation or was it from later 1940's parts order replacement pre-wired cat eye dash bases HD was still making for the military. If you prefer, we can build you a 1946 kit with solid wires with the exception of the dimmer, relay, and battery positive wires if that's what you believe the detail should be for 1946. For certain, H-D did not use much in the way of traced wires prior to the end of WWII. The last two photos show NOS wires and terminals for comparison sake. The solder on our terminals will age with time and appear as the NOS ones do.
Handlebar dimmer and horn wires have ends already tinned, you will fish the wires through the bar from the bottom. You will find it easier without your timer cable installed. You will have to solder the bar wires into your dimmer and horn switches. Other than the tail lamp and fender lamp contact button terminals, this will require no more soldering. We do happen to sell complete wire clip kits for OHV and side valve models in our store.
This harness is for the discerning restorer, please look at the photos carefully. Tinned open barrel flag terminals are correct from 1946-1947 though I have seen them as late as 1958. The harness can be used on 1939-1945 models, but would not be "detail-correct" due to the earlier harness using copper fold over flag terminals. We stock 1938 and 1939-1940 Knucklehead kits on other listings as well as UL/WL kits for 1938, 1939-1940 and 1941-1945. Let us know if you need a '38 or '46 highly detailed kit and we can make one if you don't see it listed. We do sell a less-detailed kit for about $50 less and we do sell a kit complete with pre-wired switches.
